Atlas Weathering Services Group Introduces Specimen Bar Coding
Atlas Weathering Services Group (AWSG), a global leader in weathering testing services and technology, is the first and only commercial weathering lab to offer bar coding to improve specimen tracking and automation. AWSG will offer this service at the South Florida Test Service location in Miami in September, then at DSET Laboratories in Arizona early next year.
"The specimen bar coding feature is one of the most significant enhancements in the weathering industry in years," said Oscar Cordo, Technology Manager, Atlas Weathering Services Group. "In addition to operating the largest and best maintained exposure fields in the world, AWSG continues to implement new services that advance weathering services and testing."
In addition to specimen bar coding, every test rack in the field is also bar coded to automate the function of recording the location of each and every specimen in the field, and to increase accuracy and quality. Evaluation services will be greatly enhanced by scanning each specimen prior to measurement to ensure the proper evaluations are being performed. Improved quality and turnaround time are key benefits of this bar code system.
This new Specimen Bar Coding system offers many benefits for Atlas' clients including:
- Accurate and durable specimen identification
- Real-time specimen tracking
- Automated processes - no more manual inputs of test codes
- Bar code will provide a "history" of each specimen as they are recalled and re-exposed
- If requested, AWSG can send preprinted AWSG bar code labels to clients who wish to track their samples with their own bar code equipment. A common and universal bar code format will allow AWSG bar code labels to be used with most commercially available bar code systems
- Enhanced hurricane/severe weather preparation
